UPMC and Washington Hospital Partner, Launch Care Site in Peters

Last week, the medical conglomerate launched its first initial site at the existing urgent care in McMurray.

To provide the residents of Washington County with convenient access to the highest-quality health care, The Washington Hospital and UPMC announced last month that they are partnering to operate multiple urgent care locations.

Under the joint venture agreement, the centers will be named “UPMC Urgent Care with The Washington Hospital.”

The initial site was launched last Thursday at the existing Washington Hospital Urgent Care Center in Krebs Professional Center—3515 Washington Road in McMurray. The parties plan to open two new sites within the next 18 months.

“UPMC and Washington Hospital have a long history of collaborating to better serve the needs of the community, as evidenced by our successful cancer center joint venture,” said Robert J. Maha, M.D., president and chief medical officer of Emergency Resource Management Inc., the UPMC division that will manage the urgent care centers and employ the doctors, nurses and other staff.

“This latest partnership exemplifies the positive relationships that we are building with community hospitals to ensure coordinated, high-quality care for patients. The quality of our physicians and professional staff, our integrated care approach, including the electronic medical record, and our customer service ensure an exceptional urgent care experience.

“Through this collaboration, The Washington Hospital and UPMC are combining our strengths to better serve our growing community,” said Gary B. Weinstein, president and CEO of The Washington Hospital. “We are giving residents of Washington, Greene and southern Allegheny counties the best of both worlds: the staffing benefits and expertise of the network of UPMC Urgent Care centers and the local physician and hospital follow-up referral resources of The Washington Hospital.”

Like other UPMC urgent care facilities, the joint venture locations will offer patients rapid, seven-day-a-week access to care for minor illnesses and injuries such as sore throats, bronchitis, wounds, rashes and injuries. The centers are staffed by board-certified physicians, nurses and other highly trained professionals from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with no appointment necessary. The centers also will provide on-site X-ray and lab services.

The joint venture sites will join existing UPMC Urgent Care locations in Robinson, the Bloomfield/Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Natrona Heights, Hermitage and Monroeville.
