Republican Petitions Saturday February 22

WHAT?
Every year, usually between St-Valentine's day and St-Patrick's day, plus or minus a few days, it's political candidate petition season in Pennsylvania. Everyone gets to vote this time except for the Independents: they get to watch the show from the sidelines and get to vote in November for whoever wins the spring primaries.  Independents account for something between 1/9 and 1/7 registered voters in Peters Township, depending on your source of information.
WHY?
The goal of party specific petitions is to qualify a candidate as being a reasonable person with a modicum of party support in the area. Larger counties like Allegheny County typically require more signatures than Washington County for certain positions. In Pennsylvania, the registered Republicans will sign the Republican petitions, and the registered Democrats will sign the Democrat petitions, and the same goes for the other parties. These petitions will ensure that we have a choice at both the primaries in May, and of course later in November. An insufficient number of signatures will mean the candidates names cannot be printed on any ballot, primary or otherwise.
WHEN?
Saturday February 22 from 12pm-4pm
WHERE?
Rolling Hills Country Club
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?
We expect visits from several candidates. We will have petitions for Governor Tom Corbett, Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, US Congressman Tim Murphy, and PA State house representative John Maher.
On a more local level, we will also have petitions for Peters Township Republican committee, and Washington County Republican State Committee.
Accomplishment?
Come meet the candidates, enjoy a snack and a beverage, and show your support to ensure we have Republicans on the ballot statewide and in your area!
COST?
This is a free event, sponsored by Peters Township Republican Committee.
