Vote on Tuesday 5/20! Local examples of how your votes really matter!

A quick review of recent local history shows your votes mattered here in Washington County.

In 2011, Peters Township had a controversial ballot issue that caused a double turn-out when compared to the rest of Washington county. While the rest of the county had 30-40% turnout, Peters Township averaged over 75% in its 12 polling places.

That's only 12 polling places out of the county's 184.  Many experts have said that Peters Township decided the outcome of that election. It turned a sure win for Democrats into a real contest for all. It was a very energizing and exciting year to be a volunteer, and working with the candidates and their campaigns.

I found some news stories from November 2011 where Bill Northrop candidate for County commissioner lost by 385 votes to a Democrat. This means county-wide about 2 votes per poll decided that race. That couple could be you on Tuesday 5/21!

In that same election of 2011, Washington County District Attorney Gene Vittone won by 165 votes. Many analysts credit the super voter turnout of Peters Township. This means county-wide less than 1 vote per poll decided that race. That one vote could be you on Tuesday!

Does the story of Landslide Sue ring a bell? Back in 2003 Superior Court Judge Susan Gantman won the state election by 28 votes among Pennsylvania's 67 counties. Slice that any way you like, that's a close race and every vote was counted, recounted, and re-recounted.

Finally, 4 years ago, in my little poll here in Peters A-3, I won the local Republican committee man position. After the election was over and the votes were counted some time in late june, I found out there were over a dozen candidates on the ballot with the write-ins.

In the end I won by one vote. My wife admitted she voted for me, and she made a difference in my life like she always has. That one vote changed how I would spend many evenings and weekends for the next 4 years. I've made many friends along the way which has made life so much more interesting.

Without that one vote, I would not have been involved in the 2011 effort to fight for Peters Township's charter or given the opportunity to design the red signs that were in almost every patch of un-mowed grass along the road.

This Tuesday, I am running for two Republican comittee positions this year, Peters-A3 and Republican State Committe. Please consider voting for me. I will work hard and be successful, just like I have been in the past 4 years.
