Prescription Drug Misuse

The statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are shocking – nearly 15,000 people die every year from overdoses involving prescription painkillers, and 1 in 20 people in the U.S. age 12 or older reported using prescription painkillers in 2010 for nonmedical reasons.

On Friday, February 15 at 3:30 p.m., several students from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy will visit the Peters Township Public Library for a discussion about prescription drug misuse among youth today.  The program will cover the associated risks and how to identify and prevent abuse. The presentation will include a video clip and some role playing scenarios. This hour long interactive and informative session is geared toward parents and grandparents and is not suitable for children. Register for this program by emailing programs@ptlibrary.org, at the library's circulation desk or call 724-941-9430.
