SOS Venezuela

My beautiful sister-in-law was born and raised in Venezuela, until she came to the United States to attend Duquesne University, graduating with a Masters in Physician Assistant Sciences.  Her parents had then moved to Peru and she has since, never returned to visit where she calls home in Venezuela.

Some people may be aware of the current protests going on in Venezuela but very little has attracted the attention of the media.  Social media is exploding with support for the country as many Venezuelans used social media to gain speed for the protests. However, the government began restricting internet, TV, and stopping any reporters from shedding light on the situation.  Violence has increased throughout the month of February and the need for change is dire.

I care because I have come to love many Venezuelans. Because of my sister-in-law, I have learned about the strength of family and the importance of friendship and love. She has instilled in me a sense of strength every woman should be equipped with- patience.  She has taught me to be fierce and kill with kindness.

I pray I can one day visit this country she calls home and see the beauty of the Angel Falls, the worlds highest uninterrupted waterfall.  If you have seen the Disney Pixar animation, Up, you have seen the waterfall I'm discussing. Venezuela was the inspiration for the scenery of the movie. Mr.Fredrickson wishes to reach Paradise Falls in memory of his wife, Ellie; this Paradise Falls, modeled directly from Angel Falls in Venezuela.

I am thankful for the strength I have found in myself because of my brothers wife. I hope to continue to be inspired by her grace and instill a little more Venezuelan love in me.

I am grateful for being able to live in a country that my freedom and rights are preserved, even if Fox news tells me otherwise. We should all be a little more like my sister-in-law: be thankful for your life, complain less, have more patience, and be kind to everyone.

Please pray and support the country of Venezuela through this difficult time. Change is coming!
