Locked and Loaded: PTHS Assassins 2012

An inside look into an annual game that occurs outside of PTHS. If you've been wondering why kids have been hiding out in your yard with squirt guns and ski masks, this may be it.

When you hear the word assassins, you automatically think of guns and death. But, think again. students have held the tradition for the annual assassins game for many years.

The object of the game is to successfully eliminate all other teams by using water—without being eliminated. The winning team will win a portion of the total sign-up fee. Eliminations are classified as any NOTICEABLE amount of water that deliberately comes in contact with the opponent. The water can come from anything including squirt guns and hoses, although squirt guns are most common.

Assassins is run by the seniors at PTHS. Those seniors are in charge of the money that everyone pays to play. It costs $20 per team, or $10 per person. Teams are required and consist of two PTHS students, a driver’s license is not necessary, but it is recommended, meaning anyone can play.

The game involves rounds. Your goal at the end of each round is to have eliminated your target assigned to you by the senior running it. Each round starts on Friday mornings at 6 a.m. and ends Wednesday night at 11 p.m. On Thursday night, each remaining team will receive a text from the head senior with their next assigned target. Either teammate can eliminate any one teammate of their assignment to eliminate the team. Just as you have an assignment, another team is assigned to eliminate you. So, if your partner gets shot with water, you’re out too.

In order to advance to the next round, your team must eliminate your assignment or the team that is assigned to eliminate you in the given time period. If at the end of the round you fail to make an elimination, you yourself (meaning your team) will be eliminated.

There are many rules involved with this game, the main ones being that you cannot eliminate someone on school property or at a school-sponsored event. You cannot eliminate someone entering a place, but you may get them exiting a destination. You cannot attempt to eliminate anyone while he/she is playing in a refereed sporting event, at work, in a moving vehicle, at SAT Prep class, at a medical appointment, a gym or on high school property. Also, you cannot eliminate someone in their house, unless you are invited in that is.

Once you have eliminated your target, the senior must be notified immediately.
