Make Memorial Day Memorable

Simple Memorial Day party ideas to make your holiday memorable.

With summer running at us full force, we often forget the holiday that kicks it all off—Memorial Day.

It is a day to remember the fallen and what they gave up so we could be where we are today. Memorial Day is usually spent relaxing with your family, but why not kick it up a notch this year and make your Memorial Day memorable?

If you have a pool in your backyard, invite close family and friends over to tan and swim for the day. You can set up a volleyball net, a cornhole game and even kickball bases. You can bring out a radio and blast your favorite station. For food, you can make easy and quick eats, such as a fruit salad, burgers and hot dogs.

If you do not have a pool and want to throw a bash, set up some outside games such as the ones above. You can have crafts ready for any younger kids, and, for the adults, you can make fun red, white and blue drinks. Then, you can grill out and set up picnic tables throughout your backyard for a family picnic.

For any party, you can buy giant metal tins to store drinks in by the games or by the pool for easy access. Make sure there are plenty of fun pool toys and towels as well. You can buy red, white and blue place settings, plates, cups and napkins to add to the festivities. Also, no matter how you spend your Memorial Day, do not forget the sunscreen.
