New Year, New Resolutions

My top five suggestions for 2012, and some new ways to tackle them.

The new year is here and so are everyone’s resolutions. In general, everyone has one or more resolutions but they are not sure how to tackle them, or maybe have the wrong idea. Below are the top five resolutions for 2012 and a handful of new ways to make them happen.

  • Lose Weight: In order to do this, you need to be persistent and not just do it for a month or two and just stop. Also, you should start today, not tomorrow, regardless of what you have eaten or what your physical activity has been. If you do not have much time on your hands, you can start running at home, look up work out videos on YouTube, or buy the P90X workout videos. The P90X videos usually take an hour, but you can run even when you have 10 minutes here and there throughout your day. Also, drink nothing but water. Coffee and other drinks can be loaded with sugar that your body builds up and stores as fat. Eating no carbs after lunch and not eating past eight o’clock at night can help you cut down on the pounds and even help you sleep better.
  • Get Organized: Take one weekend out of your busy schedule in order to get your house organized. In that weekend, recruit either your family or a few friends to help get the job done. Clean, dust and vacuum every room in your house. You can go through room by room and reorganize closets, clothes, shoes, books, pictures and maybe even furniture. While doing this, make note of any new containers, bins or organizing tools you need. That way, after you have an idea of what you need you can go out to Bed, Bath & Beyond and buy any storage tools you need. When you get home, all you have to do is put everything in the bins and put them away.
  • Spend Less, Save More: One word—Couponing. You do not need to go crazy like the people on “Extreme Couponing,” but just take five minutes out of your day and grab the paper and cut out any coupons that you would deem useful. Before going to any store, make a list of what you NEED and cut out coupons that correspond to the things that are on the list. Also, you can save any change that you get while out shopping and put it in a jar. Believe it or not, change adds up. You can put that money towards groceries, clothes or presents for an upcoming event.
  • Learn Something Exciting: Whether it be piano, self-defense, Zumba or tennis, no matter what age you are, there is something out there for you. Zumba and tennis are especially nice because they will help you get in shape. There is a Zumba class on Monday nights at 7:30 at Alexander’s Gym; It's an hour long. The fee is only $10 a class. Self-defense classes can be taken at the or you can look up classes near you. There are many piano teachers around in the township so if you look up teachers in the area, there will be plenty to choose from.
  • Spend More Time with Family: As a family, you can go to lunch to , go bowling at the Meadowlands, watch football games, or you can simply eat and cook dinner together every night. There are many activities around Peters Township everyone in the family will enjoy.
