10 Ways to ‘Green Up’ Your Ride

  1. Check you tire pressure. Yearly about 2 billion gallons of gas could be saved if everyone’s tires were properly inflated.
  2. Does you gas cap fit properly? Loose damaged, or missing gas caps cause millions of gallons of gas to evaporate into the air every year.
  3. Schedule a tune up. Regular tune-ups and maintenance help your car pollute less and burn less gas. With a proper tune-up you can save 4% on the cost of gas and up to 40% by replacing a faulty oxygen sensor.
  4. Change your car’s air filter and improve efficiency by up to 10%.
  5. Junk in the trunk? Extra items weigh the vehicle down and increase fuel usage.
  6. Avoid sudden starts/stops – abide by speed limits. Jerky and aggressive driving decreases MPG- also makes other drivers say nasty things about you.
  7. Minimize unnecessary miles by combining errands. Save gas, less pollution, probably spend less too- everyone wins.
  8. Regular alignments and rotations add to the life of your tires. Less tires in landfills- because we can only have so many tire swings!
  9. Oil changed recently? Old oil leads to an inefficient engine.

10. Is it time to switch? If a purchase is on the horizon, the new window stickers give consumers a better picture of the fuel efficiencies of a vehicle. Most manufacturers have improved gas mileage over the past few years.
