The New Kid on the Block

As a mom, wife, domestic engineer, cooking instructor and foodie, I'll be writing about food, recipes, cooking and various food topics.

I am a new blogger here on Patch. I will be blogging about food, recipes, cooking and various food topics. I am a newbie so let me take a moment to introduce myself. I wear many hats like most of us do—I am all things and then some. I’ve got several titles—mom, wife, domestic engineer, cooking instructor and foodie. I hate to clean—I would rather cook and bake or anything else for that matter. Life gets pretty chaotic. I take it one dish at a time.

I am from Rhode Island and I grew up in a typical Italian-American household. Yes, there were Catholic icons strewn throughout our house—thankfully no statues on the front lawn.

Yes, every Sunday we had the big dinner and it usually involved macaroni…aka pasta. You were never allowed to miss Sunday dinner—it just didn’t happen in our house. Yes, our family gathering always involved food—multiple courses, and it was lively and loud. I rolled meatballs with my mom on Saturdays, and helped make the sauce for the week. During the holidays, most kids were outside playing. For me, well that was a different story. I was in the kitchen helping my mom or grandmother.

To say that my upbringing influenced my ideas about food, cooking and rules in the kitchen, oh definitely yes it did. To this day, I still cook with ingredients in odd numbers and say a small prayer when I spill salt. Why you ask? It is because what Nana did. You did not question it, you just did what you were told.

Would I trade my childhood memories for something else? No way! I am very proud of my family and all that I have learned from them.

As a blogger and a foodie, I hope to share with you my knowledge, recipes and views about Italian-American food. As a foodie, I am on a culinary journey. I enjoy all the turns and twists that I encounter—it makes me a better cook and a well-seasoned foodie. It will definitely make for interesting blogs, I promise.
