8 Fatalities Reported on Pa. Highways Over July 4 Holiday

Two of the fatalities were alcohol related, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Eight people were killed in car crashes on Pennsylvania roads over the holiday weekend, state police said. 

Between July 3 and 6, 247 people were injured and eight people were killed in crashes that were investigated by Pennsylvania State Police. 

Of those crashes, 72 were alcohol related, including two of the fatalities. Two of those killed were not wearing seat belts, state police announced.

During the same period, troopers arrested 487 people for driving under the influence.

The number of fatalities during this July 4 holiday is less than in 2013, according to state police. Last year, there were 11 fatalities and 241 injuries.
