Blotter: Drug Charges Filed, Retail Theft Reported and Minivan Struck by Pellet Gun

Here is the latest from the Peters Township Police Department:

Washington Man Charged With Possession of Small Amount of Marijuana
Peters Township police charged a Washington man with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia stemming from an incident early Monday morning.

Police said that during a routine patrol of Peters Lake Park, officers observed an occupied vehicle parked on North Spring Valley Road.

When approached, police said the driver identified himself as John L. Ulanich of 873 Locust Ave. He then reportedly told police he had just finished smoking a joint. Police said a pipe and a small amount of marijuana were found.

Charges against Ulanich will proceed by summons.

Resident Reports Damage to Vehicle
Peters Township police said a resident in the 100 block of Demmel Drive in McMurray told police around 8 p.m. Sunday that his 2011 Doge Grand Caravan was damaged by either a BB gun or pellet gun shot. He told police that the back window of the van was shattered, and said he believed it happened sometime between 1 p.m. Sunday and the time he reported the incident.

No damage estimate was provided to police.

Retail Theft, Possession of Marijuana Charged
Police charged a Pittsburgh man with retail theft, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia following an incident at Kmart Sunday afternoon.

Police said officers were summoned to the 4041 Washington Road store for a report that a man had stolen three DVDs and was sitting at a nearby gas station.

When police arrived, they discovered Zachary Miller in possession of three DVDs. Questioned by police, Miller reportedly told officers that he had just purchased them.

Officers escorted Miller back to the store, where Kmart representative was able to provide the boxes he reportedly tore open to take the DVDs.

The DVDs were valued at $54.97. Police said a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia was also found.

The charges will proceed by summons.
