Checkpoint, Roving Patrols Net Six DUI Arrests

Peters Township police said that 150 vehicles were stopped at the checkpoint in Cross Creek this past Saturday.

A checkpoint and roving patrols in Cross Creek on Saturday resulted in six driving under the influence arrests, Peters Township police confirmed Monday.

Police Capt. Michael Yanchak said that the public safety initiative was the result of a collaborative effort between the Pennsylvania State Police—which have jurisidiction in the municipality—and the Washington County Drug Task Force.

Officers from the City of Washington, North Strabane, Cecil, Peters and Mt. Pleasant assisted with the DUI checkpoint, which was in place from 7 p.m. to midnight on Saturday.

In addition, Yanchak said that four citations for seatbelt violations were written, as was a citation for driving without a license, which was DUI related.

Police also issued 41 warnings.

"The checkpoints and roving patrols help ensure the safety of the motoring public," Yanchak said. "We are all about safety."
