Driver Injured in Valleybrook Road Crash

Valleybrook Road in Peters Township was closed for more than an hour Saturday night following a two-car crash that sent one driver to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Valleybrook Road in Peters Township was closed for more than an hour Saturday night following a two-car crash that sent one driver to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Peters Township police Capt. Michael Yanchak said the two cars were heading in the opposite direction when they collided in the 300 block of Valleybrook Road near the Opeka Auto Repair shop shortly before 6 p.m.

John Breiding, 17, of McMurray, who was traveling west, was not injured in the crash.

However, the driver traveling east, Ellen J. Caruso, 61, of Ross Township, was trapped in her car and suffered serious injuries, Yanchak said. She had to be airlifted by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital, Yanchak said.

Firefighters from Peters Township and North Strabane assisted police at the crash scene.

The road was closed for more than an hour while police investigated the crash.
