Father's Day Car Break-in Near Montour Trail Under Investigation

While out for a run, police say a woman's purse was stolen from her parked vehicle Sunday afternoon.

A street-side parking lot at the intersection of Valley Brook and Bebout roads was a scene of theft Sunday afternoon, police say. 

A black purse was stolen from the floor of a parked vehicle between noon and 1:20 p.m. The owner of the vehicle went for a run and returned to find her passenger window smashed and her credit cards, debit cards, $30 and an iPhone, valued at $300, missing. 

The purse is said to be 12-by-14 inches.

In other police news:

June 18, 6:24 p.m.; Police received a call from the owner of restaurant on Valley Brook Road Saturday when he returned to find his store closed and $210 missing from the cash drawer. An employee was supposed to start his shift at 4 p.m. At 6:10 p.m. the owner discovered a dark store and missing cash. He called home to the employee's residence when the employee's stepfather believed his stepson was at work. Police are investigating.

June 20, 12:56 a.m.; David A. Letchford, 25, of McKeesport, was charged with a DUI, resisting arrest, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after fleeing police on Carriage Hill Drive. It was reported to police that Letchford had wrecked his vehicle. He fled when police arrived. His speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol. Letchford was transported to Canonsburg Hospital for a blood test. He was arraigned and held in custody at the Washington County Jail under a $5,000 bail.
