It's the Time of Year to Watch for Deer in Forest Hills Area

'When you see one, expect to see more" - Forest Hills police Chief Chuck Williams.

You run into them everywhere this time of year—and hopefully not with your car.

The likelihood of a licensed driver in Pennsylvania hitting a deer within the next year is 1 in 77, according the State Farm Insurance website. Pennsylvania is fourth on the list of states where an individual driver is most likely to run in to a deer.

"When you see one, expect to see more," according to Forest Hills police Chief Chuck Williams. "There's a lot of woods out there and they're running back and forth."

Williams said the hot spots in Forest Hills are Ardmore Boulevard, Greensburg Pike, Forest Hills Park, the hillside behind the office building where Citizens Bank is located, Centurion Commons on Centurion Drive, and Fairfax Road toward Brinton Road.

The chief urges motorists to be careful when swerving to avoid deer.

"Sometimes it is better to hit the deer than to hit the car next to you," he said.

I've had deer run in front of my car on Lewin Lane and Nottingham Drive in Churchill.

We had one jump from a neighbor's driveway (which sits higher than our fence) into our fenced-in backyard a few years ago and have a lot of trouble getting back out. I was afraid he would hurt himself or the police would have to kill him to get him back out. They move in small groups through Edgewood Acres. Be careful!

I've seen deer in the parking lot at Edgewood Town Center, on the end by Kmart. They live in the adjacent wooded area between the Towne Center and the parkway.
