McMurray Doctor Charged with Illegally Distributing Painkillers

Dr. Oliver W. Herndon was charged in U.S. District Court Friday.

A McMurray doctor has been charged in federal court with the unlawful distribution of two prescription painkillers.

Dr. Oliver W. Herndon was charged Friday in U.S. District Court. He was arrested and then released on $50,000 bond, the Post-Gazette has reported.

The criminal complaint said that in recent months Gateway Rehabilitation Center saw an increase in patients who were addicted to Opana—which is a name brand for oxymorphone, according to the newspaper.

“At least 87 area pharmacies had stopped filling prescriptions by (the) doctor before federal agents raided his office,” the Pittsburgh Tribune Review reported.
