Myriad Thefts Reported in Peters Township

A bike, steel pipes and more were reported stolen Monday.

Peters Township police said several thefts have been reported over the weekend.

Police said a township man told police on Monday that his Schwinn 10-speed bicycle was stolen as he was completing a workout routine.

The man told police he rode his bike on the Montour Trail and parked it, then went for a run. When he arrived back at where his bike should have been, it was gone.

Police said someone cut the locks off of four different units.

One of the owners of the storage units broken into told police that copper wire and a chandelier were taken.

The owners of the other three units had not gotten back to police as of Tuesday morning.

In addition, someone stole six steel pipes from the property, police said.

Also on Monday, a Peters man came to the police department to report a theft by deception.

He told police he had received a phone call from a company and was told that he was approved for a credit card with 0-percent interest.

The man indicated that he remitted payment of $1,140 as instructed.

Then, when he called back, there was no answer, he told police.

Police said the man then called Capitol One—which he was originally told would issue the card—only to be told there was no such program offered by the company.

Police are investigating.

The department is also investigating the theft of a Penguins statue from a residence in the 100 block of Druid Drive.

The concrete statue was reported stolen at noon on Monday.

Police said it was about 2-feet tall and weighed about 50 pounds. It was valued at $75.
