News Nearby: Man Accused of Pulling Knife on Outback Workers

Upper St. Clair police arrested a man Friday morning after his  co-workers said he pulled a knife on them.

Marquis V. Richie, 44, of Bethel Park, is charged with three counts of terroristic threats, one count of aggravated assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count public drunkeness.

According to a criminal complaint filed by police, Outback employee Randolph Gatz stated Richie was banging on a locked, side door just before 9:30 a.m. Friday crying and asking him to let him in.

When Gatz opened the door, he stated Richie forced him into a kitchen corner with a knife, threatening to kill him.

According to the complaint, another employee, Lawrence White, rushed from behind and, with the help of Gatz, was able to wrestle the knife away from Richie.

Richie then threw a bottle at White and picked up a butcher knife and started chasing him, according to the complaint.

Gatz, White and another employee, Ryan Volpath, escaped the building without injury. White and Volpath stayed outside of the restaurant as Gatz went down the street to the Upper St. Clair Police Department.

Soon after, five officers entered the Outback through various entrances and found Richie in the kitchen.

Police stated in the complaint that Richie was there to kill his boss, Daniel McKinney, who was not there.

Police arrested Richie and stated he was noticably intoxicated.

Back at the police station, officers stated Richie continued accusing McKinney of being a racist and stated his wish to kill him.

McKinney later played several threatening voicemails for the police that were left on his phone by Richie, according to police.

Police said similar voicemails were left on Gatz's voicemail.

Upper St. Clair police also reported that about 30 minutes prior to the incident, a woman called police saying she was confronted by Richie on Oxford Drive in Bethel Park. She stated that Richie asked her if she was racist. He then told her he had been up all night drinking and doing drugs and was on his way to Outback to kill his boss.

Richie was arraigned at 's courtroom and brought to the Allegheny County Jail.
