North Strabane Man In Jail on Attempted Robbery Charges

William 'Bill' Carr attempted to steal from Miller's Ace Hardware in Peters Township on April 4—and wrestled with a male employee before fleeing.

A North Strabane man was held for court following his preliminary hearing before Thursday.

He was charged with attempted robbery by . 

William "Bill" Carr, 31, of North Strabane, attempted to steal two rolls of wiring from Miller's Ace Hardware in on April 4. According to police, he was hiding the wiring under his clothing and, when a male employee approached him, he dropped both rolls on the floor.

He tried to flee, but was told not to, police said. The male employee and Carr wrestled before he exited the store and fled with a female in a Jeep.

Peters and North Strabane police arrived at Carr's home in North Strabane and found him hiding in a bedroom closet.

He was arrested and charged with attempted robbery. He was arraigned before district Judge Gary Havelka and remanded to the Washington County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Following his preliminary hearing, he remains in jail—unable to post $3,000 bond—and awaits his trial. A date in Common Pleas Court has not yet been set.
