Peters Volunteer Fire Department's President Sends Warning About Phone Calls

The solicited donations are to offset expenses for some firefighters to pay for legal fees associated with contract negotiations, according to the fire department's president.

Greg Nardine, president of the Peters Township Volunteer Fire Department, has written a letter to residents alerting them to a phone solicitation happening in the township.

Nardine wrote that a company soliciting donations on behalf of the Peters Township Professional Firefighters Association has been calling residents. However, Nardine stated, the organization is not affiliated with the volunteer fire department and the donations are not shared with the department.

"The career firefighters within the department contracted to this company to solicit donations to offset expenses to pay for legal fees associated with their contract negotiations with the township," Nardine stated. "We were assured by the PTPFA that notification to the public would be made to ease any confusion. That has not been done to this point."

The volunteer fire department uses a direct mail campaign twice a year—once in April and once in September—using the township's arrowhead logo on the mailing request.
