Sex Offender Registry Links Added to Township Website After Council Voices Concern

The Peters Township police chief encourages residents to sign up for email notifications on the sex offender registry websites.

Links to two sex offender registry websites recommended by Peters Township Police Chief Harry Fruecht have been added to the homepage of the township website.

Fruecht attended Monday night's council meeting due to questions the council had about restricting where sex offenders could live.

Fruecht told council that it is against the law to restrict sex offenders from living in Peters Township. Law also does not allow police to notify the community when a sex offender moves into the township, unless he or she is a violent sexual predator or violent sexual predator delinquent.

In light of the limitation, Fruect encourages community members to sign up for email notifications on the Megan's Law website and/or Family Watchdog website. The email alerts users to when a sex offender moves to their neighborhood.
