Strabane Man to Stand Trial on Theft Charge, Robbery Charge Dismissed

Court records show that Brian Fodor was released on his own recognizance following his preliminary hearing on Monday afternoon.

A Strabane man charged by Peters Township police with robbery and theft will stand trial for theft only. The robbery charge was dismissed during a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Police said that the charges against Brian Fodor, 45, of 104 Alexander Dr., stem from an incident at Miller's Hardware June 1.

While his bail was previously set at $100,000, court records show he was released on his own recognizance by district Judge James Ellis during his preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon.

The charges were filed after store employees told police that two white males had stolen a Sears Craftsman tool set valued at $249.98.

The employees said that the two males fled in a dark green minivan after being confronted.

When the driver, later identified as Fodor, went to back out of the parking lot, police said he almost struck one of the employees and the other had to jump out of the way in order to avoid be hit.

Officers were later able to identify Fodor through information provided by Cecil Township police.

A warrant was later issued for Fodor's arrest, and he was apprehended by North Strabane police, according to the Peters Township police chief.
