Tribute Made to Peters Resident, Fallen Hero

A former assistant Peters Township fire chief was honored with a cross-ladder tribute on Thursday.

A former assistant chief was remembered Thursday with a touching tribute viewable from Route 19.

William "Bill" Anthony Lavorgna, 75, died on Sunday. Funeral services were held at Sollon Funeral Home in Canonsburg on Thursday. Full military rites were accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and American Legion Post 902.

His burial followed at in McMurray, where trucks from the Peters Township and Upper St. Clair fire companies formed a cross-ladder tribute in his honor.

"An American flag was raised for a tribute to a fallen hero, our brother," said Peters Deputy Chief Noel "Mac" McMullen. 

Lavorgna was a Peters resident. Surviving are his wife, Joann P. Refosco Lavorgna; two sons, Kevin (Renee) Lavorgna of McMurray and Keith Lavorgna of Canonsburg; three daughters, Karen Cargo (Mark) of Charlotte, N.C., Krista Johnson (Mike) of McMurray and Keri Lavorgna of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Joan Parisi (Tony) of Mt. Lebanon; a brother; Jon Lavorgna (Joanne) of Jefferson Hills; and 11 grandchildren.
