Two Arrested As a Result of Fourth of July Holiday DUI Checkpoint

The Washington County DUI Task Force arrested two people for driving under the influence of alcohol following a checkpoint held in conjunction with the Fourth of July holiday.

Peters Township police said a checkpoint was set up in the 600 block of East McMurray Road from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. June 28—and that 110 vehicles passed through it.

The drivers of seven of those vehicles were detained for standardized field sobriety tests, and six were given breath tests.

Of those drivers, two were arrested for DUI. One of the two was also cited for possession of marijuana, police said.

Peters Township police said that traffic was "extremely light"—saying there is generally twice or three times what it was seen during the checkpoint.

Police attributed the light traffic to the township's Community Day celebration, which was held the following day.
