Peters Council Approves Townhome Plan

Peters Township Council Monday night approved an ordinance amending Chapter 27 of the code of Ordinances, Zoning—Permitting Townhouses in the C-4 District as a conditional use.

The action, by a 5-2 vote, 164 Waterdam Road as a townhouse development. Council members Monica Merrell and Robert Atkison cast the dissenting votes.

Kamwood President John Kamin has said his group wants to build 15 townhomes on the property near Waterdam and Galley roads. He said the units would be “moderately priced,” noting that prices for the new townhomes would begin in "the $220,000-225,000 price range" and in the $300,000 range for all the available options.

Kamin said his group has completed market surveys and determined that there’s “nothing like this available in Peters Township.”

Kamin said completion of the townhomes would extend more than three years, with seven being built in each of the next two years, and the final townhome being built in the third year.

Kamwood Realty has held the property for the past few years. There is no immediate start-up date projected for the project.

In other action Monday night, council set a budget workshop for Nov. 7 to begin planning the 2012 budget.

Peters Township Manager Michael Silvestri said council will consider adding a 2-mill tax increase to cover legal expenses if the is approved in the Nov. 8 election.

Silvestri said the two-mil increase will not be added if the amendment is defeated.
