Council Names Steering Committee Members

Eight Peters Township residents were chosen to assist in planning the future of the community.

officials in recent weeks as part of an effort to find those interested in helping plan the future of the community.

Every 10 years, the township reviews its comprehensive land use plan and seeks residents' assistance in development.

Monday night, council named eight Steering Committee members.

The purpose of forming a committee is to provide a necessary cross section of Peters, according to Township Manager Michael Silvestri.

Silvestri said those chosen will attend a series of meetings and share their opinions, where officials can then gauge input from others.

Selected members are:

  • Frank Yocca
  • Rocco Magrino
  • Lucy Shoupp
  • Lisa Browell
  • Tony Benintend
  • Dale Griffith
  • Bill Merrell
  • Howard Hlwati

According to council, 16 people interviewed for the position. Each council member picked eight and they tallied their picks collectively, ultimately choosing the final group.

"It's a great opportunity and a serious challenge," said Robert Lewis, council president.

The committee's first kickoff meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 17 in the 's meeting room. It will be open to the public.

Council agreed this program, through a series of focus groups, will help Peters emerge through the next decade and enjoyably utilizes the visions of those who call PT home.

I disappointed with the selection of Bill Merrill to this committee. He already has his fingers too much on Peters Township via his membership on the School Board, his wife already serving on the Peters Township Board of Directors, and his cable TV episodes where he spews forth his clearly biased, republican messages.
