Council Sets Date for Final Vote on Crematory Ordinance

Final action on the crematory ordinance will take place June 27.

Peters Township Council has set June 27 as the date to take a final vote on the controversial crematory ordinance for the township.

Monday night, council set the date during a regular meeting and said that there will be no further discussion of the ordinance until the vote takes place.

have been held on the ordinance that would allow a funeral home and crematory to be constructed at the site of the old Lay-Z-Boy store (3287 Washington Road).

Audia Group Investments has asked for an exemption to build the facility on the site, but it has met stiff opposition from many township residents.

In March, the Peters Township Planning Commission that would allow for the crematory to be built.

In other action Monday, the council approved a right-of-way agreement with the Peters Township Sanitary Authority for sewer extensions in Peterswood Park, and also approved a request by the Sanitary Authority for sewage facilities planning grants.
