Gregg: 'Kids Are Being Left Behind'

Former board member Sandy Gregg said she returns to Tuesday's election with intentions to leave no child behind; Five candidates will fill five seats.

Former board member Sandy Gregg will return from a three-year hiatus to Tuesday's municipal election. Current school board member, and Gregg's friend, in August. 

A quorum of 75 percent of the Peters Township Republican Committee then voted to place .

"When I heard Diane Ritter had decided to remove her name from the ballot, I knew we were losing someone that cared about this district and children," said Gregg. "That was when I seriously considered interviewing for the Republican nod of school board."

As far as her position, Gregg knows where she stands.

"Children are being left behind," said Gregg. "I'm getting back involved because recently the focus of buisness pertaining to the board has been concentrated on building within the district and sports facilities.

"I don't like what I'm seeing. The board isn't discussing issues in the focus of the community. I feel like many board members join for personal reasons and it frustrates me."

Ritter's name will not appear on the ballot; however, Julie Ann Sullivan's will— in August.

Immediately, post-resignation, the board acted to fill the vacancy, naming  to fill the remainder of her term until December 2011.

Here is some additional info on Gregg: 

  • Peters resident for 21 years
  • Raised three children in the district
  • B.S. Elementary Education from Penn State University
  • Past board member of Peters Township Parks and Recreation Board
  • Served on the Peters Township School Board for five years (2002-2007)
  • Helped institute Youth Exemplifying Sportsmanship (Y.E.S.) throughout the community and schools
  • Current member of the advisory committee for the Western Area Career and Technology Center
