New Peters Township Councilman Voted In

The new councilman will be Michael McCaig, who works as the managing director of Janney Capital Markets.

Peters Township Council on Monday voted in a new at-large member.

The new councilman will be Michael McCaig, who works as the managing director of Janney Capital Markets, township Manager Michael Silvestri said.

McCaig will fill the vacancy left when longtime Councilman Robert L. Atkison Sr. died last month.

The vote to appoint McCaig passed by a vote of 4-2. Councilwoman Monica R. Merrell and Councilman Gary J. Stiegel cast the dissenting votes, Silvestri said.

McCaig has 25 years of experience in municipal bonds.

A former member of Peters Township Council, McCaig was also a former member of the Peters Township Sanitary Authority, according to a letter he wrote to council.

He has a bachelor of arts degree in finance from Baldwin-Wallace University, and a master's of business administration degree from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.

He will serve on council through the end of the year.

Silvestri said that McCaig will likely be sworn in during a public hearing scheduled for Monday night.

The other candidates for the position were Harry J. Verlato Jr., Paul F. Lauer, Otto Szabo Jr., Dale Griffith, Frank Kosir Jr., William Furedy and Rich Caporal. For more information on all those who made application for the position, click here.
