Peters Council Approves New Bridge

Sugar Camp Road will have to close in the near future for demolition.

Peters Township Council approved the construction of a new Sugar Camp Road Trail Bridge on Monday night.

A pre-construction meeting is expected to take place next week, with demolition of the existing concrete bridge happening late June or early July, according to township Manager Michael Silvestri.

The predicted completion date for the project is mid-October.

Sugar Camp Road will close during the demolition and also during some of the construction. That part of the trail will be closed to walkers, runners and bikers during the entire project.

Appalachian Industries was awarded the $734,000 contract.

The funding for the project is coming from state gaming funds and a $250,000 grant from Washington County gaming funds.

Two vehicles will be able to pass under the bridge comfortably at the same time when the new bridge is complete, according to Silvestri.
