UPDATE: Peters Resident Challenges Nominating Petition

Alberta Mercer is challenging Frank Pinto, who's running against state Rep. John Maher for the state auditor general post.

A Peters Township resident is challenging the nominating petition of a candidate running against state Rep. John Maher for the state auditor general post.

Online court records show that Alberta Mercer, who the Observer-Reporter identified as a member of the Republican Party State Committee, filed the paperwork in Commonwealth Court on Tuesday challenging the petition of Frank Pinto.

"I've done so much with the Republican Party and I've followed Maher's campaign closely," Mercer said. "I've looked into making sure every Republican on the ballot has everything correct, whether it's financial disclosure, etc. A couple things came up and that's why I'm challenging."

Mercer is a member of Peters Township Republicans. Pinto, the newspaper said, is a former professor from Harrisburg.

She is being represented by Otter Lawrence, an attorney from Doylestown.

A hearing on the matter has been set for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Commonwealth Court.

No further details of the challenge were immediately available Friday morning.
