Peters Township Junior Football Association Wants to Expand Football Press Box

The Peters Township Junior Football Association received approval to expand its press box and storage building at Hofbauer Field. The expansion will cost the association close to $25,000.

The Peters Township Junior Football Association received approval to expand its press box and storage building at Hofbauer Field.

Peters Township Council during its Monday night voting meeting unanimously approved the construction of an additional field box building to the existing press box.

The new two-story building would have 240-square feet of space for storage on the ground floor and the same amount of space in the press box. The two buildings would be connected by an existing walkway on the second floor.

The junior football association would pay for construction of the estimated $25,000 building, although the township would own the structure and maintain it.

Councilman Robert Atkison, though, thought the price tag was steep for a new press box.

“I just think this is a ridiculously high price,” Atkison said. “That’s a lot of money for that structure. A lot of money.”

At least one parent involved in the football organization previously voiced concerns that the $25,000 should be spent elsewhere. They hoped it could be used to purchase artificial field turf, although organization officials said that would cost close to $1 million.

The township’s building inspector has looked at the plans and issued a building permit to the association. It was also approve by the Parks and Recreation Board.

I agree with Mr. Atkison. The football association must have money to throw away. Although when one considers the fire department burning $22,000 for an electronic sign that say happy new year and like us on facebook, $25,000 is a bargain!!!

Is there ever a project related to sports programs that the Associations do not like? Press Box? For kids football? Somebody has lost the perspective on youth sports!
