Peters Township Wants Refund For Garbage Pickup Problems

Peters Township is trying to recoup money from Waste Management after there were two separate issues with trash pickup during the holidays.

Township Manager Mike Silvestri said Monday night that Waste Management has already agreed to refund the township for problems around Christmas.

However, there is a disagreement whether it should also be responsible for late trash pick-up for a couple thousand homes after New Year’s Day. Silvestri thinks they should refund the township about $6,200 for that delay.

“We do have a number of residents who are requesting a credit,” Silvestri said.

The council unanimously agreed that the township should fight the charge and ask for Waste Management to give it a credit because the pickup was five or six days late.

“They didn’t do their job, they don’t get paid,” Councilman James Berquist said.

If Waste Management agrees to a refund, township officials said they would work to repay the few dollars to the homes that were affected.

“I do think the residents do deserve something because they did have to deal with that,” Councilwoman Monica Merrell said.

Silvestri said the only other community also pursuing a credit is Baldwin Township.
