Post-Conventions: Who Will Win the 2012 Presidential Election?

Now that the Democratic and Republican delegates have officially chosen their nominees, Patch wants to know: Who are you betting on?

It's official: With President Barack Obama's acceptance speech in Charlotte Thursday night, both the Republicans and Democrats have formally chosen their nominees for the 2012 presidential election. Let the real race begin.

A lot can change between now and Nov. 6: Gaffes, scandals or even major international news events could shift the dynamics of the campaign.

The latest Gallup Polls show registered voters preferring Obama to Mitt Romney by just one percentage point, 47 percent to 46 percent. A USA Today/Gallup poll taken just before the party conventions found American voters think Obama is more likeable, but trust Romney more to handle the economy.

Pundits have been busy for months handicapping the major-party candidates on various factors: incumbent advantage, fundraising clout, even religion.

Patch wants to know: Regardless of who you support for president, who do you think will actually claim victory in November?

Vote in our poll below, and let us know your reasoning in the comments.

Adding, the names mentioned are examples, which must be acceptable as MattA did it several times above and has not been erased.
Nazy H September 13, 2012 at 01:34 PM
My point is, I think the Patch does this purposely to illicit these strong comments, but then pulls some. They have had other articles in this vein with the same result.
NE12Ukid September 13, 2012 at 01:36 PM
NazyH:And to clarify my statement, Jean Smith states "obummer 2012 on a plane to kenya where he belongs" referring to his black father's birth place but didn't say, "obummer 2012 on a plane to Kansas were he belongs" referring to where his white mother was born and I did the math.>>>> That is pretty clear, thanks for explaining. This "obummer" nonsense, and worse terms used by JeanSmith in other threads seems OK with the editors, so when ever one sees that term, it would be only fair to respond with something about the other candidate, Mr. Rmoney. Or I heard he has a new name now: Money Boo Boo. Have a nice day, it's another beauty out there everyone!

Nazy H, we only pull comments that violate our terms of use. http://foresthills-regentsquare.patch.com/terms (The terms of use are the same on all of our sites.) We post polls like this because we believe that it is important for the community to discuss important issues of the times, especially in this world where neighbors sometimes don't even talk to each other anymore in person.

Please watch and listen all the way through whether you are democrat or republican. It will make your blood boil if you have not seen this already. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y35S4Oua8vI&feature=youtu.be
Nazy H September 13, 2012 at 04:04 PM
Zandy-not everyone is pulling comments. You will have to explain to me how these nasty posts made it through on this story: http://dormont-brookline.patch.com/articles/should-we-keep-the-affordable-care-act-or-parts-of-it I didn't take any of it personally, since I had already disregarded most of the statements being out of spite since the facts got in the way of the argument. I also bring this up because a lot of those who personally attacked me are posting on this story as well. It seems that this is how it is set up and took this type of forum to be like this, and only those who complained on this particular story got posts removed, I have not seen it anywhere else. I did end up changing my name because they were getting creepy. So either let them run or pull them before someone complains if that is the policy. I had to flag as inappropriate on posts attacking me were removed, but meanwhile I summarize what someone else's posts say and I get pulled. seems like some posters on the Patch know how to work the system.
Jean Smith September 13, 2012 at 04:11 PM
Nazy why I say to put obummer on a plane back to Kenya is because I don't believe his birth certificate that he put out last year. Most don't believe it is a true birth certificate beings that he was born in a hospital that didn't exist till 2 years after he was born. It also listed on his birth certificate that he was African yet back in the 60's the were using the term Negro (no offense to anyone). Why isn't he releasing any medical and school records is because he came to school in the United States as a Foreign Exchange Student. That is why I want him shipped back to Kenya as that is where he was born and raised Even legal experts say his birth certificate is a fraud. He also wants all of his records sealed after he leaves the White House and trying to sign legislation to that fact. I hope when Romney gets in office he exposes obummer to the fraud he is. I am not the only one that calls him obummer, I got this term from a Dean down at Pitt that teaches Political Sciences as he is a big disappointment.
Nazy H September 13, 2012 at 04:17 PM
I don't believe you, Jean. I find your post inappropriate and has nothing to do with who will win the election, and only strengthens my argument about your ulterior motives for voting for Romney.

NE12Ukid My shoes are American made, and the last TV that I purchased was made in the United States. It is about 15-20 years old and when it goes then that is when I will purchase a new tv. My kids laugh because it is a big heavy balky set, but it still works and won't though it away till it dies and can't be fixed any more.. Granted you can't get everything made in the USA but I try to buy 90% or better of American made products.

The President's last name is Obama. Have some respect for the office of the President and some pride in the fact that you're an American.

Well, I am certain you are beaming with pride how the Unifier in Chief has been doing this last past 3 ½ years. To be honest, a week a go I hope he lost – I think now I’d like him to win. I have an 18 year old nephew and his inclination was to vote for BHO but he is taking some economic classes and is starting to think about the job market he will face in 4 years. We have a legitimate shot of watching the Democrat “brand” go into a death spiral for the next 20 years. If that is the case, then let the Dems through – let’s watch them blow up on their own.
Jason Bahr September 13, 2012 at 05:33 PM
No one has unified conservatives like Obama. For that I am grateful.
Nazy H September 21, 2012 at 06:20 PM
I can say that, Me, because Obamacare has already helped me. And not by taking anyone's taxes, by regulating the health care industry. Yes, I would agree, people over 70 would not need any sort of health insurance buy-in program via Obamacare because they would be on medicare/medicaid and covered. Obamacare has nothing to do with SS or what is in place for the elderly. No, a panel will not decide treatment, you can't believe anything fox news pumps out there. Here is another link to a post you obviously need to read: http://beforeitsnews.com/culture/2012/08/obamacare-8-myths-about-health-care-reform-2435050.html Yes, I know what it is like to try and talk to people who don't do any research for themselves and only get bits of misinformation from groups with a hidden agenda, like right now!
Me September 21, 2012 at 06:23 PM
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says President Obama's plan to overhaul health care is evil. "Downright evil." She used Facebook to reveal her thoughts on the debate. The former Republican vice presidential candidate made her her first online comments since leaving office, and according to a report by the Associated Press she said in the "Facebook posting that he would create a "death panel" that would deny care to the neediest Americans." Obama Care - Sarah Palin Calls Health Plan 'Evil' (Image: WENN) Obama Care - Sarah Palin Calls Health Plan 'Evil' (Image: WENN) "And who will suffer the most when they ration care?" Palin asks in her online argument against the policy. "The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obamas 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil." ***

Quoting Palin isn't helping your cause. She doesn't tell the truth, she just gets her rhetoric out there to get herself on tv. Please show me proof, with an unbiased article, link to a video, anything. She is not expert or even has a basic grasp on it. Call it what you like, but if you start calling me names because I don't agree with you, I will report you.

Jean smith says: I don't believe his birth certificate that he put out last year. Most don't believe it is a true birth certificate>>>> MOST? Who? Most of your ill informed friends, JEAN? <<<<beings that he was born in a hospital that didn't exist till 2 years after he was born. It also listed on his birth certificate that he was African yet back in the 60's the were using the term Negro (no offense to anyone).>>>> Did you look at it, JEAN. If so you would see that NO SUCH THING appears there. <<<<Jean continues: I am not the only one that calls him obummer, I got this term from a Dean down at Pitt that teaches Political Sciences as he is a big disappointment.>>> "Mommy! everybody else is doing it, so that means its ok for me to do it." Good grief, JEAN, do you know how ridiculous that last sentence of yours sounds?
Me September 22, 2012 at 02:10 PM
Victoria I heard the the Romney tax returns were with Obama birth certificate and college records
cc September 22, 2012 at 05:25 PM
LOL, you don't think Palin is telling the truth but believe that obama is. he said he wouldn't run if he didn't fix this country in 4 years so why is he running again. obama has destroyed this country in 4 years, but us in debt almost 7 trillion and his first term isn't even finished yet. obamacare is a joke with his comfort care, if your 70 or older, they will give you meds to make you comfy and not treat your illnesses, same if you have a disability and have a disabled child. we need obamacare gone now.
cc September 22, 2012 at 05:30 PM
The lesser of the two evils is Romney and I hope he gets in office. He said he won't take a Salary and will pay for his own vacations and golf outings. obama's have wasted a trillion on their own personal gains, million dollar vacations paid for by the Citizens of The United States so that michelle can take her daughter and 40 personal friends on a 4 day vacation in Spain. ALL PAID FOR BY THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES, PRIVATE USE OF 2 AIR FORCE 1 PLANES (suppose to be used to transport the President) to where he suppose to be, not take wifey and friends on a vacation. Lets not forget flying their dog to their vacation spot on his own Air Force One Plane.
cc September 22, 2012 at 05:50 PM
Until obama produces a TRUE Birth Certificate, his college records and everything else he has hidden and now trying to place into law a bill that will seal his records for every. I hope the Next Republic that gets into office exposes obama for what he is a Fraud and he ends up going to jail for all of his lying that he has done to get elected in 2008, because we will find out he wasn't a True American Born Citizen of the United States and that he came to Colleges in the United States as a foreign exchange student.

where does Jean say that she wants obama shipped back to kenya because his father is black???? would it make a difference if she said Japan, Mexico, Canada, South America, Italy, England, Spain. She did not state to send him back to Kenya because he was black, and do we know for a fact that all of Kenya is black, that there isn't white people living in Kenya "The People of Kenya, Social Issues The social structure that evolved in Kenya during colonial times emphasized race and class. The dominance of whites over blacks was reinforced through segregation of the races and, within the black African population, of the various ethnic groups. Within each ethnic group, status was determined largely by wealth. After Kenya gained independence in 1963, race ceased to be an important indicator of social status, but wealth and ethnic identity remained significant. Today, a number of Kenya’s problems result from disparities in wealth. These problems include pervasive urban and rural poverty, overcrowded and substandard housing in urban areas, and a relatively high rate of unemployment. In the 1990s the country also witnessed periodic clashes between ethnic groups, particularly between Kalenjin and Kikuyu peoples in west central Kenya. Tropical diseases, including malaria, have long been a public health problem in Kenya. http://www.countriesquest.com/africa/kenya/the_people_of_kenya/social_issues.htm
