Three Seeking Nomination for District B Peters Township Council Seat in Primary

Councilwoman Monica Merrell faces opposition in the May 21 primary election.

Although there are four seats on Peters Township Council up for grabs in the November general election, only one district race will be contested in the primary.

Three township residents will be vying for the Republican nomination to a four-year seat in District B.

Incumbent Monica Merrell, the president of Vesta Business Services and member of council since 2008, will be facing off against Theodore J. Taylor IV and Michele A. Hvizdos.

Hvizdos did not immediately return a message seeking further information on he background.

Councilman Stiegel Jr. is seeking the Republican nomination for the open four-year at-large seat. In District A, Councilman David M. Ball is seeking re-election. He is the only candidate seeking the Republican nomination. There are no Democrats on the ballot.

In District C, Councilman Frank Arcuri is seeking re-election. He is the only candidate seeking the Republican nomination.

In District C, Council Vice President James F. Berquist is seeking re-election. He is the only candidate seeking the Republican nomination.

No Democrats will appear on the ballot in the May 21 primary.
