Toomey Continues Push to Defund Obamacare

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) is continuing his efforts to block the Affordable Care Act.

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) announced this week that he is taking additional steps in his continuing efforts to defund, delay and ultimately repeal President Barack Obama's health care law.

This past week, Toomey co-sponsored two bills authored by Republican leader Mitch McConnell (KY)Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) that delay for one year either a portion or all of the mandates and taxes established by the health care law. Specifically, both of these bills delay the individual and employer mandates scheduled to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2014.

"The president's health care law is fundamentally wrong in its approach to improving our nation's health care system and should be repealed in its entirety," Toomey said in a news release. "This law imposes onerous new mandates and regulations that are bad for patients, doctors, job growth and our overall economy.

"In the absence of repealing this law, Congress should at least delay the implementation of its heavy-handed mandates to prevent the imminent harm they will have on the pocketbooks of Pennsylvanians, job creation and our economy."
