Township to Replace Its Phone System

Peters Council went against township staff's recommendation.

Peters Township Council awarded a contract to Premier Com to install and maintain a new phone system for township buildings.

Premier Com submitted the least expensive bid.

The second lowest was Advent Communications, whose bid was about $2,000 more than Premier Com.

Township staff recommended council award the contract to Advent because the company is an authorized dealer of the Avaya phone system with a silver designation. The designation has to do partly with the number of trained and certified technicians the company has, according to township officials.

A representative for Premier Com argued at the meeting last week that its trainers were qualified and expressed his desire to do the work for the township.

The current phone system used in municipal buildings is from 1988 and the system's parts are no longer made.
