Turnout for Today's Primary is 'Very Light' in Washington County

Washington County Elections Director Larry Spahr said election results should be tabulated by 11:30 p.m.

Washington County Elections Director Larry Spahr said his department is dealing with the normal glitches that come with a primary election.

There were some battery malfunctions, there were some voting machines that needed to be rebooted, and there were some registered Independents who attempted to cast ballots.

"We're just having our normal problems," he said.

While no major problems were reported in Peters Township, he said, there was one at one of the nearby Canonsburg polling places.

Spahr said the doors of the First Street Elementary School polling place were about 20 minutes late opening while the county office rerouted someone to work at the location after nobody showed up.

He reiterated that the polls close at 8 p.m., and he indicated that results should be tabulated by 11:30 p.m.

As for voter turnout?

"It's very light," Spahr said.
