K9s for a Cause to Benefit Officer Kuzak

Picnic benefits paralyzed police officer and demonstrates skills of specialized safety dogs.

The following is an event that took place on Saturday—

I just got back from a charity drive held by the Peters Township Police and the Pleasant Hills K9 division at Peterswood Park, a place that, in spite of the overnight housing developments and increased building construction, has remained unchanged beyond my 20 years. Granted, it's not everyday the rolling hills are graced with specially-trained law enforcement dogs nipping at rookies in fat suits.

The combination cookout-K9 event was put on to raise money for James Kuzak, Jr., a Clarion, Pa. police officer who is now restricted to a wheel chair due to the five shots and ensuing injuries that he endured while on duty on April 4, 2011.

T-shirts with Officer Kuzak's name and information were sold, as well as baked goods and picnic food to benefit he and his family.
