Children's Hospital Presents Teen Driver Simulation at PTHS

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC will present its annual teen driver simulation program to local high school students to prevent destructive driving behaviors among teens and young adults.

Students from Keystone Oaks High School and will participate in this year’s program, which will occur during National Teen Driver Safety Week.

Experienced Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh staff will guide students of legal driving age step-by-step through a simulation experience created with the direct participation of law enforcement, judicial and trauma personnel.

The program uses high definition video scenes and cutting-edge gaming technology to show real life consequences of poor decision making while driving.

The driving distractions addressed in the program include: alcohol; fatigue; illegal/prescription drugs; texting; cell phones; peer interaction and much more.

This simulation focuses exclusively on the consequences of impaired and distracted driving. Students are actively engaged while safely experiencing the risks and consequences of driving distracted or impaired.

The program is designed to modify driving behavior by illustrating the consequences of choices made behind the wheel. Through the combination of driving simulation, intense interactions and first-person consequence videos, teen drivers are immersed in an emotional and personal experience that program organizers hope will result in transforming dangerous driving behaviors.
