Heinz Calling All Student Artists for Ketchup Contest

Students are eligible to win cash prizes and the chance to see their artwork grace millions of ketchup packets produced by the Pittsburgh icon.

Pittsburgh-based H.J. Heinz Co. is calling on student artists to claim a chance to win cash and to see their artwork decorate more than 20 million Heinz condiment packets by winning its annual Ketchup Creativity Contest.

More than 130,000 entries from thousands of U.S. schools have been submitted to the contest since 2006, according to Andy Ludlow, associate brand manager for Heinz ketchup. Last year's winners included students Lauren Paxton and Rachel Carlisle of the Monart School of the Arts in Washington, PA, and Grant Phillips of Trafford Middle School in Westmoreland County.

Teachers and parents can download the contest kit and lesson plans, which include classroom activities, at www.KetchupCreativity.com. Entries can be submitted by U.S. mail through March 31.

A panel of judges will choose 12 winning entries—one from each grade K-1 through 12—to be announced in May. Winners each will receive $1,000, and their schools will receive $1,000 and a voucher for $1,000 worth of Heinz ketchup. Home-schooled winners will not be awarded cash or ketchup prizes intended for schools.
