High School Law & Government Mentor Program Needs Your Help!

Here's what you can do to help the high school program.

Peters Township High School is looking for potential mentors who have experience in the fields of law and government to help shape the lives of students through the Law & Government Mentor Program for the second semester of the 2012-2013 school year.

What exactly is this program?

The goal of the program is to further enhance the practical "real world" experiences of students interested in pursuing a post-secondary career in a law or government-related field.

The students will spend clinical time reviewing case studies within the classroom to prepare for the "real world" placement. Students will be placed in community-based situations—such as in law offices, court houses, local government offices—and intern or job-shadow under the supervision of certified legal personnel.

Organizers said that if you do not see your profession on the list and feel it should be included to contact the program.

How will the program work?

Students will leave PTHS during ninth period and spend Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at their mentor site.

Students will be required to obtain 30 hours of job shadowing at the mentoring site. Requirements during the shadowing include keeping a detailed journal of the experience, completing any work given, being observed by the teacher at the shadowing site at least one time during the semester, and completing a final paper on advancements in the field of study.
