Peters Township Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Five local students move on to compete for scholarship money.

Five students from Peters Township High School have been named semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program, according to a district news release.

The students are among an elite group of 16,000 students from across the nation to earn the honor.

Seniors Maple Chen, Carla Hoge, Matthew Perryman, Cheng Wang and Sean Yang will now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $36 million, that will be offered next spring.

Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
