Peters Middle School Students vs. Teachers Basketball Game Slated for Tonight

The event raises money for the PTA—and you're invited.

Sure, it might appear that the staff members might have a leg up on the competition against students Thursday night.

After all, the grown-ups are playing their students from the Peters Township Middle School.

But middle school Principal Mike Heneghan said the competition in this staff vs. students game is more fair than one might think.

"What you see a lot of the time is that the teachers have more experience and skill," he said. "But by the time you get to the second half, the kids still have those young legs."

Seventh and eight-grade students are scheduled to play their teachers in an annual basketball game tonight, Thursday, March 21, at the middle school.

While the basketball game will be the main attraction, there will also be a half-court shot contest for students. For just $1 a shot, students can take the challenge, with the winner garnering half the take in a 50-50 raffle.

But really, the fundraiser put on by the school's Parent Teachers Association is about more than friendly gamemanship. It's about teamwork and getting to know each other on a one-to-one basis.

"The personal connection is something that is so important," Heneghan said. "That's something our teachers do very well."
