Peters School Board Hikes Taxes 3.79 Mills

The 2012-13 budget of approximately $50.9 million passed Monday night.

passed its 2012-13 budget Monday night unanimously. School board member was not in attendance. 

The general fund budget in the amount of $50,872,603 was adopted for the upcoming year. Also approved was increased millage—school board member dissenting. 

A millage rate of 100.30 mills, which includes a 3.79 mill increase, for the 2012-13 fiscal year was passed. The increase is equal to the allowable state index of 1.7 percent plus PDE approved exceptions, according to the board.

So what does this mean for homeowners?

If your current taxes are $1,000, your annual increase will be $17. (For further comparisons, see the attached document.)

Technology and curriculum budgets were also approved. 

The technology budget, included in the general fund budget, was adopted in the amount of $902,231. This number excludes salaries and benefits. 

School board members approved the curriculum budget in the amount of $164,594.05.

Lastly, the 2012-13 capital reserve budget was passed in the amount of $965,445—$45,345 higher than the tentative budget . This budget includes a $400,000 transfer to the general fund.

The board's next regular meeting will be held Monday, Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
