Peters Township Board of Education Hires Fall Coaches

Nick Milchovich's position remains unclear, as no action was taken on the football coaching position.

The Peters Township School Board Tuesday night hired coaches for fall sports, but did not vote to fill the head football coach.

Instead, the position remains open, and the status of Nick Milchovich still remains unclear.

The football coaching position, along with those of all other fall sports was opened by the board in December, in a move Superintendent Dr. Nina Zetty explained “would bring consistency” to the hiring of coaches and bring them in line with all other curricular positions, as well as, to comply with Human Resources policies within the district.

Zetty said last month that all coaches are evaluated on their performance, and that they will be eligible to apply for positions after the “first of the year.”

“No one has been told not to apply,” Zetty said. “Nothing has changed, only the formality of posting.”

Hired for coaching positions Tuesday night were Dave Barr, cross country; Kristin Caponi, field hockey; David Kuhn, boy’s golf; Jim Augustine, girl’s golf; Robert Dyer, boy’s soccer; Pat Vereb, girl’s soccer; Brandt Bowman, girl’s tennis; and Ashley Green, girl’s volleyball.

Individual board members did not address the football coaching position. Following the meeting the board adjourned into an executive session to discuss personnel and finances.

Milchovich had support from one member of the audience who addressed the board prior to the meeting.

Former board member Allison McClure called on the board to “follow its policies” in the hiring of a football coach. McClure claimed that other coaching candidates did not have the qualifications to coach as Milchovich, however, when questioned by Dr. Zetty, she did not have specifics about any other coaching candidates.

In other action at Tuesday’s meeting, the board honored students and teachers with their monthly Celebration of Excellence recognition, and were recognized for their own service to education by Kristopher Bergman, president of the Peters Township Federation of Teachers, Act 93 President and Middle School Principal Dr. Robert Freado and Carol Aurin, PTA area council president, who presented books to the district.

The board’s next regular meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 22. The annual joint meeting with council will be held Jan. 31.
