Peters Township School Board Approves Preliminary Budget

It was unclear if a tax increase is imminent.

Peters Township School District's board of directors this week tentatively approved a $53.3 million spending plan for the 2013-14 school year.

"Over the next month, the district will continue to review expenditures to make changes," a district spokeswoman said.

While the board will meet again at 6:30 p.m. June 10 to further discuss the budget, the document is not expected to be ratified until directors meet on June 24, the spokeswoman said.

A $900,000 line item in the capital improvement budget is earmarked for the possible replacement of turf at the Peters Township High School stadium, according to The Almanac.

The newspaper reported that directors stressed that the expenditure would have to be approved at a later date.

"The only thing approved Monday night was preliminary expenditures. The revenue side of the budget will be approved in June," the district spokeswoman said.

The state requires that school board's approve their final spending plans by June 30.
