Peters Township School District Lauds Students for Achievements

Peters Township School District board and administration lauded its students for their achievements in academia, the arts and athletics.

Here is who is in the spotlight this month:

  • Peters Township senior Austin Chappel was named a top-10 finalist in a recent Chicago Architecture Foundation Competition. He created a new design of the high school library. It was selected from 226 projects submitted from 13 states.
  • McMurray Elementary School fifth-graders Bethany Edenburn and Becca Franco received perfect score in the recent WordMasters Challenge—a national competition. Only 144 elementary students in the country received perfect scores. They are coached by teacher Elizabeth Clark.
  • High school Spanish students recently created fairytales on their iPads. The stories were written in Spanish and included English translations for younger students. The iPads used were provided through a grant from the Education Foundation.
  • High school students Caroline Curran and Maille O'Toole were accepted by the Pittsburgh Youth Media to be high school youth reporters for the upcoming year.
  • The following students for achieving high honor and honor awards at the Western Area Career and Technology Center: Earning high honors were Elizabeth Gesselberty, Greg Keefer, Christian Kelly, Vincent Massari and Kylie Oliver. Earning honors were Steve Bahr, Kristina Ellis, Brittany Torres, Jarrod Wright and Daniel Yoest.
  • The following high school teams were honored for winning Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Athletic Association championships this year: Girls soccer, girls tennis, girls tennis—doubles
  • The following teams were lauded for winning Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League championship: Girls lacrosse, girls soccer, girls tennis, girls tennis—doubles.
  • The following were congratulated for winning their WPIAL section: Field hockey, hockey, boys soccer, boys tennis, girls golf, girls volleyball, girls lacrosse, girls soccer and girls tennis.
