In addition, 1,000 pounds of food was collected for the Washington County Food Bank.

More than 160 students, and numerous staff and faculty, participated in this year's fifth annual Idol held March 10.

Approximately $13,000 was raised for the American Cancer Society, in addition to 1,000 pounds of food for the Washington County Food Bank.

"Our judging panel this year included Harry Kehren (Steven Tyler), Kelly Zajicek (Jennifer Lopez) and Tim Cirincione (Randy Jackson)," said Carol Hoffman, the school's library secretary.

Reading Specialist Sandra McWilliams served as emcee, as Sandy Secrest and Barb Viola were backstage with her "ears" on communicating with the high students, manning the sound booth, according to Hoffman. Also, Traci Stunek was the host in charge of steering students over to the judging table.

The event had such a large turnout there was standing room only in the high school auditorium, she said.

"We, at Pleasant Valley, are very proud of our student body, family and staff for all of the hard work, rehearsals and time that go into making PV Idol a huge success every year," Hoffman said.

"We would also like to thank the high school student technical crew and the custodial staff, who are so helpful to us every year in putting on our PV Idol."
